There are a lot of myths out there surrounding wedding florists and the sorcery that is creating your wedding flowers. I'm here to set the record straight, whilst also giving you some top tips on how to use flowers to create your dream wedding!
Wedding Tax. Do florists hike up the price when they hear the flowers are for a wedding?
Ah, the classic "wedding tax" myth. If I had a pound for every time I heard this one! Yes, wedding flowers cost more than the bouquets you see in a high street florist, but there’s a very good reason for that. Wedding flowers are the best of the best!
We’re talking about premium, top-of-the-range blooms, specifically ordered to match your dream colour palette. That means sourcing rare colour tones, with flowers at their absolute peak.
And it’s not just the flowers themselves – wedding floristry is a whole different ball game. Your bridal bouquet? It takes around 3-4 times longer to create than a standard bouquet. It has to be perfect from every angle, sit comfortably in your hands, and last all day looking utterly fabulous. Plus, there is the additional expertise; we need an encyclopedic knowledge of flowers, their seasons, and their prime blooming stage – get them too soon and they’ll be overblown by your wedding day, too late and they’ll be closed tight. Being a wedding florist is a delicate art of managing the requirements of lots of different varieties to all be perfect at the same point in time... its no mean feat!
Oh, and let’s not forget the logistical magic of setting up a whole wedding in just a few hours and making gravity seem optional with huge hanging installations! There are a lot of different balls to juggle.
So no, it’s not a “wedding tax” – it’s the cost of perfection. And the experience, time and labour required to create that.

2. More Foliage = Cheaper Arrangements
People are often under the impression that bulking out designs with extra foliage or opting for foliage only arrangements (such as foliage garlands) is a cheaper way of decorating their wedding, because there are "no flowers".
But here’s the kicker – foliage isn’t always the cheaper option. In fact, some greenery (we’re looking at you, eucalyptus!) can cost as much as flowers, if not more. Add in the extra demand during wedding season, and the fact that popular foliage like Eucalyptus are out of season during the height of the summer and we are not talking about "cheap filler" anymore!
Remember that an abundance of any ingredient is always going to add to design costs and more foliage = more time required to create designs. Whether it’s intricate foliage garlands or wild, trailing arrangements, these designs take just as much expertise and effort as a floral arrangement. So while foliage-forward designs can look dreamy, they aren’t always the budget hack people assume.

3. Dried flowers cost less than fresh flowers.
Sorry, wrong again! While dried flowers are absolutely stunning and can last for years, the process of getting them from field to bouquet is intensive. First, they’re grown and harvested like fresh flowers, but then they go through an entire drying and preservation process, which adds extra costs. The result? Wholesale prices for dried flowers can be more than that of fresh flowers!
That being said, dried flowers have a longevity bonus – if cared for properly, they can last a lifetime. So while the upfront cost might be higher, they’re a great option if you’re thinking of repurposing them as home decor after the wedding, you could consider it as better value over time.

4. Faux flowers cost less than fresh.
This is a tricky one because, while faux flowers can be reused, high-quality silk flowers actually cost more than fresh flowers. The good ones (i.e., the ones that don’t look plastic and shiny) are expensive to produce and import. And while they do last forever, they still require the same level of artistry to arrange and style properly.
We make no secret of the fact that we believe there is nothing better than fresh flowers for your wedding day. That said, if you’re looking for keepsake flowers with a longer lifespan, they could be an option for you... just don’t expect them to be a bargain.

5. Foliage Garlands Are A Cheap Centrepiece Option.
It sounds logical, doesn’t it? Just a bit of greenery down the centre of the table should be cheaper than full floral arrangements… except, not quite. Making lush, trailing garlands takes a LOT of foliage (read: expensive greenery), plus hours of careful wiring and arranging to make sure they sit just right.
The foliage-heavy look can be dreamy giving relaxed botanical vibes to your wedding day... but it's not a budget option.
